Dr. Tessena is currently a Senior Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center.  He splits his time between the Addiction Psychiatry Service and the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP).  He works at the methadone maintenance program and has a number of patients maintained on  Suboxone maintenance therapy.  His primary psychotherapeutic approach is motivational interviewing as developed by William Miller and Stephen Rollnick.  

He attended Niagara University as an undergraduate and has a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Chemistry.  He graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic were he obtained a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.).  He completed a residency in general psychiatry at the Western Psychiatric Institute which is part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. 

Dr. Tessena is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry.
